Waste collection and management is a subject that undergoes extensive study and solutions are carefully designed. Due to the exponential increase in population, there is an increased production of waste as well as a significant amount of garbage consisting of plastic, paper and other similar products carelessly thrown and strewn in public. The need for a more robust waste management strategy is therefore essential. Currently, waste management techniques either lack efficiency or are associated with high costs. Several governmental and non-governmental organizations have tried to clean public spaces. Collection of disorganized and scattered waste is the preliminary and most important step in waste management after proper sorting and disposal. This paper proposes, explains and implements an original concept to create a modular, scalable and cost-effective waste collection system. In order to effectively use the Internet of Things to maintain a constant connection between a central server and a network of independent, autonomous garbage processing and collection robots, we rely on such a system to provide accurate results and also significantly reduce costs, thus providing a feasible solution to minimize human effort and cost during waste collection. It provides a gateway to implement waste collection robots in smart cities. Rather than describing the design of a single robot, we design an entire system of networked robots to optimize time, energy, and overall speed. There is always a trade-off between accuracy, efficiency and cost of waste collection, especially when robots enter the picture. Our goal is to find the perfect balance between these factors.
